This Is My Hair

Making a difference

With ‘‘This is my hair’’ it was very important to me to show more black hair appreciation.

The history and popularity of cornrows have undergone significant changes over the years. Cornrows have been worn by various African ethnic groups for centuries. They served not only as a practical hairstyle for working in the fields but also as a means of self-expression and cultural identity. In many African societies, hairstyles could signify a person’s social status, tribe, age, marital status, wealth, and even religious beliefs.

With this project, I aim to raise awareness for cornrows and, in the future, explore other perspectives on black hairstyles. My hope is to inspire more people to embrace their natural hair.
